Abstract
Interdisciplinary studies turned out to be of great interest in the last years. This research aimed to perform a temporal quantitative analysis of the word interdisciplinarity from 1970 to 2004 using a scientometric approach. In order to accomplish such purpose, titles and abstracts of 469 available studies found in the ISI Web of Science [Institute for Scientific Information] (1) were reviewed, and most of them (87,42%) have been indexed from the 90’s on. The USA has the leadership in number of scientists and journals publishing on this topic. Three hundred and fourteen studies were published as papers. Nakamura’s (2) review stood out as the most cited work (105 citations), several were mentioned just once (77 studies) or never mentioned at all (75 studies). More than 300 studies had the word interdisciplinarity appearing in the title.
Keywords: interdisciplinarity, scientific research, scientometry
